POWER TO DEAL WITH GARMENTS OF HINDRANCE
Message Text: Genesis 35:1-6 and Zechariah 3:1-10

A garment is any article of clothing, especially of outer clothing such as a coat or dress. There are physical and spiritual garments The kind of physical garment put on by individual tells a lot about
    (a) The personality of the individual
    (b) The wealth of the individual
    (c) The tribe of the individual
    (d) The intention or the agenda of the individual
    (e) The profession of the individual
As the physical garments tells who an individual is, likewise the spiritual garments. As the physical garment could be seen and judged by physical eyes, likewise the spiritual garments. The Bible clearly breaks spiritual garments into two.
    1. We have the UNDEFILED GARMENTS
    2. We have the DEFILED GARMENTS
The undefiled garments are garments that symbolize holiness, and right standing with God. Let us look at what the Bible says in (Rev 3:4) Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy.
Therefore biblically the undefiled garment is a white garment. This is the garment that the Bible admonishes us to put on all the time.
(Ecc 9:8) Let thy garments be always white; and let thy head lack no ointment.
The undefiled white garments that the Bible admonishes us to put on includes
    1. Garments of Salvation
(Isa 61:10) I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.
These are the garments put on by believers who have accepted Christ into their lives. And Christ has become their Lord and Savior. Such lives are filled with the joy of the Lord. And the joy of the Lord is the strength of the individuals who wear the garments of salvation. Amen
    2. Garments of Praise:
(Isa 61:3) To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.
The garments of Praise are worn by believers who wear garments of salvation. The garments of praise are worn to ward off spirit of heaviness whenever the adversary assigns such against the believer.
Our Lord Jesus makes us to realize that whosoever will successfully wear these garments to the end shall be clothed likewise in heaven. Undefiled garments are garments of over comers. They attract all kinds of angelic beings that are of assistance to believers in times of need. They attract God’s love and mercy. They attract blessings. They attract divine security and protection.

(Rev 3:5) He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.
Defiled garments are evil garments. These garments are garments of hindrance and destruction. Defiled garments can be self adorned (imposed) or
t hey can be forcefully imposed by contrary powers.
    Self imposed evil garments include:
    1. Garments of idol worshipper, as worn by the household of Jacob in Shechem. (Gen. 35:2)
    2. Garment of fear
    3. Garment of greed
    4. Garment of lying and deceit
    5. Garments of Pride, Anger
    6. Garments of drug addiction.
    7. Etc.
The self adorned evil garments are garments of sin. These are regarded as underwear evil spiritual garments. Whenever these garments are in place, a legal ground has been given to Satan and his agents to forcefully impose other evil garments on the individuals concerned.
    •  These garments will attract the attention of the adversary to pursue his normal agenda, which is to steal, to destroy, and to kill.
    •  These garments will attract hindering spirits.
    •  These garments will attract evil pursuers
    • These garments will give legitimacy to ancestral spirits activities

Other garments that Satan and his agents can impose on individuals include,
    • Garments of bewitchment
    • Garments of slavery
    • Garments of death
    • Garments of infirmity
    •  Garments of failure at the edge of success
    • Garments of loneliness
    • Garments of marriage destruction.

The Bible regards all these garments as Leprous garments
    • (Lev 13:59) This is the law of the plague of leprosy in a garment of woolen or linen, either in the warp, or woof, or anything of skins, to pronounce it clean, or to pronounce it unclean.
    • The Bible mentions of a kind of garment that no man must wear as it is only worn by God. This is the garment of vengeance.
    • (Isa 59:17) For he put on righteousness as a breastplate, and a helmet of salvation upon his head; and he put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, and was clad with zeal as a cloak.
    • No wonder God declares of himself in
    • (Deu 32:35) To me belongeth vengeance, and recompense; their foot shall slide in due time: for the day of their calamity is at hand, and the things that shall come upon them make haste.
    • Now, let us consider two Bible characters that had defiled garments removed before advancement. Their defiled garments acted as weapons of hindrance to their advancements
    • JACOB AND MEMBERS OF HIS HOUSEHOLD (GEN. 35:1-6)
    • In this Bible passage God gave an instruction to Jacob to go up to Bethel and begin to live there.
    • (Gen 35:1) And God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there: and make there an altar unto God, that appeared unto thee when thou fleddest from the face of Esau thy brother.
    • God did not tell Jacob how to get there. And He only gave the instruction and kept quiet. But the unexpected happened.
    • (Gen 35:2) Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments:
Jacob gave instructions to members of his household to do three things quickly
    1. To put away strange gods that are among them
    2. To be clean, that is to purify or sanctify them self
    3. To change their garments
Because they were idol worshipers, they definitely were wearing garments of idol worshipers. Therefore wearing defiled garments that needed to be changed
Jacob understood God very well. He knew that for him to get to Bethel safely, he must take drastic decisions. He stopped kidding with God.
Jacob knew that the kind of garments put on by his household members would attract attacks from neighboring cities along the way to Bethel. With that kind of garments their security was not guaranteed.
(Gen 35:5) And they journeyed: and the terror of God was upon the cities that were round about them, and they did not pursue after the sons of Jacob.
Jacob understood spiritual warfare very well. He knew that any form of defile garment put on by any member of his household will attract the pursuers. But as soon as they removed defiled garments and put on the undefiled after obeying the law of putting away strange gods and spiritual cleansing, they got to the promise land (Bethel) without any hindrance.
    • (Gen 35:6) So Jacob came to Luz, which is in the land of Canaan, that is, Bethel, he and all the people that were with him.
    • JOSHUA THE HIGH PRIEST: ZECH. 3:1-10
    • (Zec 3:1) And he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him.
    • (Zec 3:2) And the LORD said unto Satan, The LORD rebuke thee, O Satan; even the LORD that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: is not this a brand plucked out of the fire?
    • (Zec 3:3) Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and stood before the angel.
    • The Bible passage here shows three characters in focus: Joshua the high priest, the angel of the Lord, and Satan.
    • There was a message to be delivered to Joshua the high priest by the angel of the Lord. But, Satan was there to resist him. Why? This is because a legal ground has been established against Joshua. And verse 3 of the above text makes us to realize the legal ground.
    • (Zec 3:3) Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and stood before the angel.
    • The angel could not complete his assignment because Satan was present to enforce a law, which Joshua the high priest has broken. Joshua the high priest had on him a filthy garment, a defiled garment, a garment of sin. The angel of the Lord was just standing, he could not accomplish the task assigned unto him by God and he could not return back to God with the message as Joshua the high priest did not stop praying, after the order of Daniel. Satan is a legalist. If given the chance, he will stand his ground.
    • The Psalmist in one of the words of his pleading for deliverance from the onslaughts of his enemies states in
    • (Psa 17:3) Thou hast proved mine heart; thou hast visited me in the night; thou hast tried me, and shalt find nothing; I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.
    • Therefore if the adversary does not find any sin, any disobedience, any rebellion against the words of the Lord, in one word any legal ground to stand on, garments of hindrance cannot stay on.
    • God Himself had to intervene by rebuking Satan, then He spoke
    • (Zec 3:4) And he answered and spoke unto those that stood before him, saying, Take away the filthy garments from him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with change of raiment.
    • Even after the Lord had rebuke Satan, what has brought about Satan’s resistance must be removed. That was exactly what happened to Joshua the high priest.
    • (Zec 3:6) And the angel of the LORD protested unto Joshua, saying,
    • (Zec 3:7) Thus saith the LORD of hosts; If thou wilt walk in my ways, and if thou wilt keep my charge, then thou shalt also judge my house, and shalt also keep my courts, and I will give thee places to walk among these that stand by.
    • The angel of the Lord delivered the message sent him by God after the change of garments.
    • Every sin not confessed will defile a garment. A defiled garment will attract demons that will supervise contrary things in the life of a sinner.
    • Jesus is ready to deliver you from the yoke of garments of hindrance, as He delivered Joshua the high priest in the time of Prophet Zechariah. He is very compassionate. If only you can turn to him today.
JESUS CHRIST THE SAME YESTERDAY, AND TODAY, AND FOR EVER. AMEN
